THOMAS IVES CHATFIELD was born in Great Barrington, Mass., September 16, 1818, and when old enough was apprenticed to and learned the, baker's trade. In March 1839, he came to Owego and was employed as journeyman baker for a time but soon succeeded to the business formerly carried on by Mr. Worthington. He afterwards engaged in the grocery business, and was one of the leading mere hants of the village during the long period of his successful career. Mr. Chatfield died in Owego May 2, 1884. In politics he was an ardent republican and held a high position in the councils of the party in the county. In 1858 he was elected to the Assembly, and was a candidate for the state treasurership in 1869. He was village trustee four years and village supervisor three years. He represented this district in the state senate. He was connected with the county agricultural society for many years, and was its, treasurer. Above all these considerations was the general esteem in which he was held by his fellow men, and his death was regarded as a public loss to Owego. Mr. Chatfield was twice married. His first wife was Mary Bundy, with whom he married November 9, 1841, and by whom he had one child, who died at the age of seven years. His second wife was Lucy B. Goodrich, with whom he was married June 22, 1858. Of their two children, only one is living, Thomas Ives Chatfield, Jr. He was educated in the high school of Owego, Yale University and Columbia Law school, and is now practising law in New York city.

Each recurring fruit season brings renewed complaints about depredations committed upon orchards. A case detected yesterday may perhaps deter fruit-stealers from further operations. About two p.m. Constable Foreman was going the rounds in Ponsonby, when he saw four boys selling fruit. It has been well said that a guilty conscience needs no accuser, for as soon as the little fellows sa the man in blue they dropped the fruit and ran for it. Foreman and Finnerty, however, succeeded in securing four boys, who appeared at the Police Court this morning before Dr. Giles, R.M.
Their names were as follows ;--Thomas W. Chatfield, aged 15; Ernest Sutton Chatfield, 11; George Roderick Green, 14 ; and Frederick Callaghan, 11. They all pleaded guilty to having stolen lemons and apples from the orchard of Wm. Mason at Ponsonby.
Sergeant-Major Pratt related the facts of the case, and Mr Green said that the boy was wi1d, though he had not been up before.
Dr. Giles dismissed E. S. Chatfield with a caution, and ordered each of the others to receive six strokes with a birch rod, also 24 hours' hard labour.

Chatfield, was born April 22nd 1875 in Killingworth Connecticut. He married October 1st 1902 in Killingworth Connecticut his first wife Inez Jillson Cowie. She was born May 31st 1878 in Webster Massachusetts. She died January 26th 1927 in Washington Connecticut. He then married not so soon after my grandmother Florence T. Baker Chatfield. I don't know who Thurber's parents were and who Florences parents were? I do know that Florence came from the Fall River, Massachusetts area. Can you help me find their parents?

[Sailly Church was burnt during the open fighting of October 1914, when French cavalry and British and German infantry fought on the Lys, but from the winter of 1914-1915 to the spring of 1918 the village was comparatively untouched. It was captured by the Germans on 9 April 1918, and it remained in their hands until the beginning of September. The cemetery was begun by Canadian units in March 1915, and used as a front-line cemetery until July 1916; it contains 313 Commonwealth burials of the First World War and one German grave.]
