The death of Mrs. Agnes G. Aberle, widow of Christian Aberle, occurred at her home on West avenue in this village at 9 o'clock on Wednesday morning, after an illness of several months' duration. Deceased was born in Veidesheim, Germany, February 22, 1851, and was therefore aged 48 years, 11 months and 28 days. She is survived by her mother and one sister, still residing at the old homestead in Germany; and by eight children, Mrs. William Thaler, W. F. Aberle, Jennie D., Carrie, Agnes, Edward, Howard and Lewis, all living in this village; and by one brother, George Goetz of Rochester. Mrs. Aberle's husband died six years ago. The funeral services will be held from the residence on West avenue at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon, and Rev. C. H. Dickinson will officiate.

Chico Daily Record, Tuesday Morning, June 6, 1905, pg 7 col 2-3: Six Deaths In Past Two Days. Unusual Number Has No Significance Concerning General Health. Mrs. Rachel Strange, One of the Pioneer Ladies of Chico, Among Those Called – Missionary Preacher Dead. Death has been busy in the neighborhood of Chico during the past forty-eight hours, no less than six having responded to the call during that period, ranging from the infant whose span of life had but compassed a month, to the grizzled veteran nearing the nineteenth round of the ladder. The causes of demise were various, not from any prevailing epidemic, and the coincidences of dates bears no significance concerning general health conditions.
Mrs. Rachel Strange. At 12:30 yesterday morning the curtain dropped on the life work of one of Chico’s pioneer ladies, whose residence in this city extended back forty-four years, and who, during that long period, had gained for herself the respect and admiration of all the older residents by her qualities of mind and heart. She leaves many friends who will truly mourn that her life could not have been spared for further usefulness, though she had nearly reached the allotted span of three-score and ten. Mrs. Strange had been ill, but about two weeks and her family were hopeful that she would be restored to health again, but during the past few days it was known that her condition was very serious.
Mrs. Strange, whose maiden name was Rachel Goff, was born in Ray county, Missouri, March 7, 1833, and was married to Benjamin Strange at Elk Horn, Missouri, February 13, 1851. In 1859, with her husband, she crossed the plains by the dreary method then in vogue, and after a hazardous journey of several months beset with danger from the Indians and sickness and the hardships incident to the trip, arrived in California, stopping for a short time in the mines, and in June, 1861, coming to Chico, which had since been her home.
She leaves beside her husband three sons, G.W., T.F. and S.M. Strange, and three daughters, Mrs. J. Shilling of Nelson, Mrs. W. Harris of Oakland and Mrs. T.H. Purcell of Douglas, Arizona.
The funeral will take place this afternoon from the family home on Sixth street, between Hazel and Ivy, at 3:30 o’clock, the services being conducted by Rev. E.L. Fitch of the Methodist Church, South.
