Mrs. Mary Sandford, 90, who died on June 23, was one of Wallaroo's oldest residents and a pioneer of the State. She was the daughter of the late Mr. L. and Mrs. L. Chatfield. Born at George Steet, Thebarton,
Mrs. Sandford spent an eventful life. At the age of 19 she married Mr. Robert Sandford, at Seven Hills College, Clare. From Clare the couple travelled to the Echunga gold diggings in a bullock waggon, their home being a wattle and daub hut. With the petering out of the diggings the couple went to Dunn's Bridge, and from there to Maitland, living on a farm belonging to the late Mr. Tom Hogan.
Mr. and Mrs. Sandford took a new farm at Tippara, and from there transferred to Wallaroo Mines, where they lived for seven years. Forty-three years ago Mr. and Mrs. Sandford went to Wallaroo, remaining there for the remainder of their lives. After living at Wallaroo for some time, Mrs. Sandford opened a boarding house in Stirling street. This was disposed of ten years ago, on the death of her husband. She then resided with her daughter, Mrs. P. McMahon, until her death. For many years Mrs. Sandford was blind, but until a few weeks before her death could sew, threading the needle with the help of her tongue.

Mrs. Thompson had been a homemaker, a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Muskegon 4 H Club ''Red Hot Riders''. She enjoyed horses and gardening, but foremost was her family.

Mary Christine Burton, 74, of Tipton Lane, Waverly, Ohio died Saturday morning December 19, 2009 at her home. She was born February 13, 1935 in Pickaway County, Ohio, daughter of the late John Chatfield and Ruby Jones Chatfield. On July 10, 1954 Christine was united in marriage to Raymond Burton who survives.

Also surviving are four children, Jeff Burton and wife Barbara of Dublin, Ohio; Tom Burton and wife Deborah of San Diego, California; Susan Farmer of Piketon, Ohio; Joe Burton and wife Kathy of Waverly; eight grandchildren, Josh, Molly and Megan Burton, Terry Farmer, Brooke Walls, Bobbie Jo, Donnie and Amanda Burton, four great grandchildren, Gage, Natalie, Maverick and Callie, as well as eight brothers and sisters. In addition to her parents, a son, Robert Michael Burton, preceded Christine in death.

Christine was a homemaker, a 4H advisor and a voter registration monitor for many years, and a member of the Piketon-Jasper United Methodist Church.
