McCormick of Fountain, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 7 at his home with his loving wife at his side. Gerald was born June 18, 1918 near Fountain to Fred and Pearl (Chatfield) McCormick. He attended Mills School in the rural Fountain area. In 1939 he married Beatrice Klopfenstein and together they enjoyed over 68 years of marriage. In 1952 Gerald founded Gerald McCormick Sawmill in Fountain, now known as McCormick Sawmills, LLC. Gerald had been a pulpwood producer for many years and eventually decided to switch over to sawing pallet stock and assembling pallets. He began the business with a used handset circular sawmill and three employees to assist him. Wood was handled with an old dozer pulling a dray and tongs and he did his own production of saw logs. In 1975 he retired from the sawmill and son Jerry with his wife Marcia purchased and continued the business. After retirement, you could find Gerald working from early morning to late night in his state-of-the-art machine shop. It was a hobby for him, but he could perform miracles on the many projects brought to him by family, friends and neighbors. His sons envied his immaculate and organized shop. He knew exactly where everything was, and if you borrowed something, you knew you better return it. Gerald and Beatrice enjoyed the quiet country life in Fountain where they could often be found together sitting in their lawn chairs in the coolness of their garage or enjoying Beatrice's homemade sour cream cookies from their favorite chairs indoors as they watched the news. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Cleo Belle Reene; his son, Robert Lee McCormick; and his grandson, Justin Travis McCormick. He will be greatly missed by his wife Beatrice; his sons, Jerry (Marcia) McCormick, and Lee (Patti) McCormick; grandchildren, J.W. (Gail) McCormick, Jeremy (Kristina) McCormick, Cheryl, and Chevy McCormick; his great-grandchildren, Travis and Megan McCormick, Madisyn McCormick, and Kaitlyn Thompson; his sister, Clarice Krupinski; his brother, Gilford (Meretta) McCormick; and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service will be held for Gerald at noon on Tuesday, March 11 at Stephens Funeral Home in Scottville with the Rev. Norman Letsinger officiating. Burial will take place at Sherman Township's Fountain Cemetery. Friends may meet with his family for a time of visitation on Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. She graduated from Richmond High School in 1950 and from the University of Maine at Orono in 1955 with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, having affiliated at the Maine Medical Center School of Nursing in Portland, ME. She had been employed at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, the Barre City Hospital, and the Central Vermont Hospital in Berlin as well as the Vermont State Hospital in Waterbury. She had been a volunteer at the Green Butterfly Benefit Shop for the Handicapped in Venice, FL. In 1955, she married David Butterfield of Hawthorne, NJ and to them were born four children. They divorced. She later married Frederick Prevost of Waterbury, VT who passed away in 1978. On July 31, 1981, she married Floyd LeRoy of Barre, VT. Shortly afterward, they moved to Venice, FL where they have since resided. She became a member of the South Venice Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Floyd; her children, Traci Block and her husband, Jonathan of Portland, ME, David Butterfield of Barre, VT, John Butterfield and his wife, Jessica of Vernon, VT, and Eric Butterfield of Springfield, VA; her grandchildren, Nellie Block of Portland, ME, Kayleigh, David, Sean, and Sarah Butterfield of Vernon, VT, and Paige Butterfield of Springfield, VA; her step-daughter, Mary Anne Parnigoni and her husband, Ronald of Barre Town, with whom she and Floyd made their home when visiting from Florida; their children, Cara Dunn and her husband, Jeff of Waterbury, VT and Kimberly Jones and her husband, Brant of Buford, GA; her step-son, John LeRoy and his wife, Linda of Barre, VT; their children, Heather Henderson of Connecticut and Tamara LeRoy of Colorado; as well as four great-grandchildren, Christian and Justin Dunn, Madison Henderson and Elena Jones; a sister, Louise Smith Cooper and her husband, Wilber and a sister-in-law, Mary Smith, all of Richmond, ME; an aunt, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many, many best friends in the world also survive.
