The daughters are Mrs. James Brown and Alice Buck. Louisa at the age of 17 married G. H. Dennis and to them were born six children: Fremont, Mrs. Nettie Turner, Mrs. Mary Smith, all residents of Sycamore. The three younger children, Carrie, Mina and Amos are deceased. She married William Chatfield June 12, 1948, in Dubuque; he survives. She was president of the Ladies Golf Association, Platteville, (Wisconsin), and a member of St. Andrew's Altar Sodality. Also surviving are two sons, four daughters, seven grandchildren and five sisters. ====================== Mar 13, 1989: Telegraph Herald, Dubuque, Iowa ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ "When she (Shirley) was born, she was the 5th daughter. Nana named her Shirley Mae and Pana went in and added Harriet (his name was Harry). I guess if he couldn't get a son he was going to name his daughter after himself. Nana never forgave him, neither did my mom. Mom never used the Harriet, and the only way I found out was after she died and I saw a report card with the full name of Shirley Mae Harriet Oswald on it. Dad confirmed she had two middle names, but hated the Harriet and never used it." +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ by Cheryl Chatfield Thompson (daughter of Shirley Mae Harriet Oswald Chatfield) |

Michael (Mike) Francis Ott of Virginia Beach, VA died suddenly on July 10th, 2020. He was 55. He was born on June 19th,1965 to Sheila (Mullarkey) and Michael Francis Ott, Sr., in Youngstown, Ohio. Mike was a native of Richmond, VA where he attended Benedictine High School. He graduated with a B.S. in Political Science from the United States Naval Academy in 1988 and received his commission in the U.S. Navy. He received his Master's in Technology from the Naval Post Graduate School and a Masters of Arts in Defense Studies from Kings College, London, England. Mike served on active duty for 31 years and retired as a Captain. Captain Ott commanded numerous units at sea culminating with his final command as Commodore of Naval Beach Group Two in Little Creek, VA. His impact and knowledge as a leader in Amphibious Warfare can't be accurately captured on paper as he was an anchor on the JEB Little Creek waterfront for over 20 years. His awards include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various unit, campaign and service medals. Mike's remarkable courage, bravery, energy, generosity, intellectual curiosity and leadership led him to an accomplished career and life as a husband, father, son, brother and friend. His Navy career led him to relocate with his family overseas to Honolulu, HI, and London, UK, but he was blessed to spend the bulk of his career in Virginia Beach, VA. He was a loyal leader and mentor who cared deeply about people. Mike was a charismatic, passionate, generous man who was strongly committed to every member of his family and friend group. He had a strong sense of purpose and touched everyone he met. Fearless both intellectually and physically, his recreational hours were spent supporting his four sons in whichever sport or opportunity life presented. One never missed him on the sidelines cheering for his sons and the teams they represented. He loved anything that had to do with the sea. Mike was a decorated Naval Officer, a great American and Patriot but his greatest source of pride was his family. He was a dedicated husband to the love of his life, his wife of 32 years, Shawn Anne Chatfield and father to his four sons, Michael (Chat), Nathan (Nate), Andrew (Drew) and Dayton and his beloved chocolate lab, Baloo. Along with his mother Sheila and his parents-in-law Anne and George CHATFIELD, he leaves behind his sister, Lisa Ott Johnson (Michael) of Singapore, brother Joseph Patrick Ott of Hartfield VA and sister Donna Ott Gates of Austin, Texas, nephew, Hammond Branch Johnson, nieces Mia Christine Gates, Alden Rose Gates and Addison Dare Ott , as well as many devoted friends from around the world. He was predeceased by his father. A memorial service has not yet been planned, but his family intends to have his ashes committed to the sea. The Virginian-Pilot - Virginia Beach, VA - 15 Jul 2020. |
Parents: Ruth and Leroy Otwell. ----- BEN OTWELL, passed away at his home north of Columbus, NM early Sunday morning September 13, 2015 with his wife Carol at his side. Cremation has been entrusted to Baca's Mimbres Crematory with private tribute of remembrance. Ben was born on New Year's Eve in 1952 and spent his early years in the Silver City area, raised by his parents Ruth and Leroy Otwell. He served his country in the U. S. Marine Corps during the Viet Nam era. He lived his life to the fullest extent, always learning and trying new things, packing in as much as he possible could. Relaxation for Ben was the wind on his face and a fast ride on his Harley, a one-man machine built for speed - and yet he was a gentle man with a humble mannerism, not very sociable and mostly keeping to himself. He was an accomplished horseman, a carpenter by trade, and a passionate hunter and fisherman. He held dozens of awards for excellence in endurance riding, having spent more hours in the saddle than behind a steering wheel. His carpentry skills took him everywhere, many times traveling to disaster areas working to help families rebuild after devastating hurricanes had torn their lives apart. He was a brave and compassionate man. Working in youth camps, he shared his love and respect of nature with the younger ones, bringing to them his knowledge of the ones who came before us and teaching them the sacred art of hunting and fishing. He hunted, fished and floated the rivers of the Gila, the mountains of Mogollon, and shared time on the Blue with grandparents who lived near Luna. He was father to Tyler Otwell, who now resides in Silver City. Tyler holds within himself the same respect for nature that his father instilled in him early on. He too is an accomplished horseman, a passionate hunter and fisherman. Since Ben's passing, so many people have told us how deeply he had influenced their lives and how simply they were able to learn so much through him - even in just a brief encounter. Ben Otwell was truly an extraordinary man on this earth. He made his last river crossing guided by the light that he always trusted, knowing that we will join him on the other side when our time comes. He is survived by his wife, Carol Nemec, his son, Tyler Otwell, 2 brothers and 2 sisters, Floyd, Larry, Benita and Diane. ===== USA Public Records Name: Ben A Otwell Also Known As: Arthur B Otwell Residence Date: 01 Jul 2000-01 Mar 2001 Residence Place: Columbus, New Mexico Phone Number: (505) 531-2288 Phone Number Recorded Date: 01 Mar 2001 Address: 736 PO Box, Columbus, New Mexico 88029 Address Date: 01 Jul 2000-01 Mar 2001 2nd Address: 205 N Lyon St., Silver City, New Mexico 88061 2nd Address Date: 01 Dec 1993 3rd Address: 79B PO Box, Silver City, New Mexico 88062 3rd Address Date: 01 Jul 1987-31 Dec 1996 Record Number: 4196299 |
