Another of Pioneers Ends Useful Career
Funeral Services Held at Thermopolis Saturday
Emory J. (Hal) Blakesley was born at Lafayette, Ill., on April 22, 1871, and died at Thermopolis, Wyo., Thursday, December 11, 1930, being in his 59th year at the time of his death.

Shortly after his father's death, Hal Blakesley started west and located at Lander, Wyo., in 1901. He there organized the first band in that community and was leader of the Silver String orchestra. Later he moved to Otto and there he and a brother, Lou Blakesley, who passed away several years ago, edited and published the first newspaper to be printed in the Basin country.

On November 7, 1890, he was united in marriage to Sylvia Viola Cranmer, and to this union there were born eleven children, all of whom are living and who were present at the time of his death.

Mr. Blakesley was a member of the Modern Woodmen and also the Knights of Pythias lodge.

Those who knew this pioneer knew him as one of the courageous characters who helped develop the Big Horn basin. He was the last of a family of six who came to this country many years ago.

Funeral services were held from the Eastman Mortuary on Saturday afternoon last, the services being conducted by Rev. S.E. Anspaugh, of the Community church. Interment took place at Riverside cemetery.

Death Takes Pioneer Basin Newspaper Man
Basin Wyo., Sept. 7--(Special)--Lou Blakesley, a pioneer newspaper man of the Big Horn basin, passed away Monday night at his home in Basin following an extended illness. Mr. Blakesley came into the basin from the Lander country about the year 1893 and began publishing the Courier at Otto, which became a candidate for the county seat of Big Horn county. He was prominent in the affairs of the Republican party over a long period and held the offices of superintendent of water division No. 3, county clerk and county treasurer. He was holding the latter office at the time of his death. Funeral services will probably be deferred until the latter part of the week.

Marguerite Blanton Wooten having completed her earthly service for God, went home on Monday, September 16, 2013.

During her 30 plus years of membership at Graceway Baptist Church she spread the seed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to many children and adults. She was a Sunday School teacher, director of Children's Christmas Programs, Fall Festivals, Vacation Bible School, and one of the best cooks for the many church fellowships. Her love and helping hands will be missed by many.

She was preceded in death by her husband William (Bud) C. Wooten and her parents Oscar and Maude Blanton. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Katie, Beulah, Lois, and Ruthie and her brothers Leroy, Lewis, and Johnny.

She leaves behind a sister Helen Madden and a brother Jimmy Blanton. Although she never had children of her own she was blessed with many loving and caring nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Saturday, September21, 2013 with open visitation 12-1 pm and the funeral at 1pm.

The family would like to express our gratefulness to her Pastor and Friend Larry Mullins and his wife Arbutus. Thanks also to her neighbor and close friend, Mary.
