Harrie Underwood PEVERILL was born about 1883. He died in 1938 at the age of 55 in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia. Examiner (Launceston, Tas. : Tuesday 16 August 1938)
Obituary
MR. H. PEVERILL'S CAREER. Connection With Film Industry. One of the best-known personalities in the motion picture business in Tasmania. Mr. Harrie Underwood Peverill, died in a private hospital in Launceston yesterday after an illness of five weeks. Mr. Peverill, who was 55 years of age, was general manager of Tasmanian Amusements Pty. Ltd.. controlling the Plaza Theatre, Launceston, and the Avalon Theatre, Hobart. Mr. Peverill has been associated with picture theatres in Tasmania for almost 20 years. He came to Launceston as manager of the Majestic Theatre, and had charge of that theatre until the Plaza, in which he was one of the principal share-holders was opened. The third son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Peverill, of Brunswick (Vic.), Mr. Peverill was born and educated in Victoria. He began his business career as a draper's assistant, but, disliking the life, ran away to sea. He was aboard a ship that lost its propeller in the Indian Ocean and was missing for 150 days before it was sighted by another vessel on the run between Fremantle and the Cape. After some years in South Africa and India, Mr. Peverill returned to Australia and became engaged in film distribution work. being employed by the Paramount Company in Sydney. Later he joined Haymarket Theatres, and after periods in Sydney and Melbourne came to Tasmania as manager of the Majestic Theatre. When he left that theatre he had to take over much of the detailed work involved in the re-building of the old Academy into the Plaza Theatre. A few years ago Mr. Peverill made his home at "Plazaville," Gravelly Beach, and from that time he interested himself in public activities there, taking a prominent part in moves to improve the town as a holiday resort. Mr. Peverill leaves a widow, Mrs. Mollie Peverill, a daughter of Captain Chatfield, who piloted the yacht Ophir in which King George and Queen Mary, as the Duke and Duchess of York, made their visit to Australia. Mr. Peverill was one of a family of eleven. Two brothers, one of whom was Sergeant J. Peverill, of the Melbourne motor cycle police, are dead, but he is survived by four brothers and four sisters. A brother, Mr. P. Peverill, of Brunswick, and a nephew, Mr. P. Kennedy, of South Yarra, flew from Melbourne yesterday. The funeral will leave Mr. C. T Finney's parlour, Brisbane-street, at 2 p.m. to-day. Manager's Tribute: A warm tribute to Mr. Peverill's outstanding ability as a showman was paid yesterday by Mr. J. Wilson, manager of the Majestic Theatre, who expressee the regret of Launceston theatrical in- terests at his death, Mr. Peverill had had years of experience in the motion picture industry, Mr. Wilson said. When he (Mr. Wilson) first came to Launceston he was shown many kind nesses by Mr. Peverill, which he deeply appreciated. As a result he had found himself at home in Launceston much sooner than he would have otherwise. "His bright and cheery personality will be missed in Launceston picture circles," said Mr. Wilson. "Our sympathy goes out to Mrs. Peverill and the relatives.'

SUDDEN DEATH 0F MRS. J. R. CHATFIELD
DIED SOON AFTER
RETURNING FROM CHURCH FAIR.

MANY ATTENDED FUNERAL

Community Greatly Shocked By Unexpected Ending Of Life Of This Popular And Active Member for Many Years Of Sycamore Society.

The sudden death at about 10 o'clock on Friday night of Mrs. John Chatfield came as a great shock to this community. She had felt as well as usual that day, although she had suffered slightly for a few days of pains in her head, and attended the annual family and supper at the Universalist church that evening where she thoroughly enjoyed herself. Returning home, she retired and at about 10 o'clock she called her husband. Putting her hand to her head, she said she was very sick, and very soon became unconscious. A physician _had been called immediately, but she died in a few minutes. Her death was attributed to apoplexy.
Clarinda Phelps-Chatfeld was a daughter of Samuel and Dorcas (Campbell) Phelps who came from the vicinity of Syracuse, N. Y., among the first settlers of this vicinity, and were engaged for many years in farming.
The daughter was one of eleven children of her parents, and was born on the homestead farm southeast of Sycamore on Feb. 26, 1860. Here she grew to womanhood, and on October 1, 1879, was united in marriage to John R. Chatfield, only son of John and Julia (Holmes) Chatfield, also pioneers of this county.

John R. Chatfield was engaged for a number of years in the grocery business in Sycamore, and recently resumed active management of his large farm north of town, but Mr. and Mrs. Chatfield continued to occupy their pleasant home in this city.

To them were born a son and daughter: Leslie J. Chatfield was married to Miss Jennie Dee of Rochelle, and with their two children they make their home in that city; Ethel was married to Perry Fisk, and they make their home in DeKalb. On these loving children and the devoted husband this blow has fallen with crushing effect.

Mrs. Chatfield also leaves surviving two brothers and four sisters: Benjamin Phelps of Omaha, James Phelps of Rockford, a veteran of the Civil war; Mrs. Mary Ewing of Chanute, Kan., Mrs. Caroline Corser of Cherryva1e, Kan., Mrs. Sarah Ann Black of Arkansas City, Kan, and Mrs. Della Gordon of Cassopo1i, Mich. Two other sisters, Mrs. John Westlake of Sycamore and Mrs. Lyman Ewing of Lansing, Mich., are deceased.

Mrs. Chatfield was a member of the Universalist church and an active and useful member of the Ladies’ Aid society, the Rebekahs and the Royal Neighbors.

There was a very large attendance at the funeral services which were held in the Universalist church on Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, the pastor, Rev. G. H. Ashworth, officiating. The interment was in Elmwood cemetery.
