Johannes ver VEELEN / VERVEELEN was born in 1616. He died 1699/1701 in USA. An early settler of New Harlem in New Netherland, USA. Personally I do not feel there is any reasonable doubt that Thomas Chatfield was the father of Verveelen’s wife, but as no documentary evidence has been found which explicitly avows the relationship, some qualification of the claim had to be made in the title.

However, the true date is 1636, as kindly brought to our attention by Kay
Strand, of West Bountiful, Utah; and the actual record, with the date at the
top of the page, can be seen on the website of the Regionaal Archief Tilburg

Prior to its digitization, copies of the record were being passed from hand
to hand which did not show the entire page, and some of the information was

Joseph I. Verdini, 82, of Center Street, Wallingford, CT, beloved husband of 27 years, of Elizabeth B. (Bathgate) Verdini, died at the Masonic Healthcare Center in Wallingford.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, a son of the late Joseph M. and Alice M. (Indulgenti) Verdini, he had been a North Branford, CT and Florida resident for many years until moving to Wallingford several years ago. Mr. Verdini had been employed as a Draftsman and Checker for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in Windsor and North Haven for 18 years and was also employed by the Disney Company of Orlando, Florida for 6 years until his retirement. He was a 50 year member of the Masons and was a 32nd Degree Mason with the Washington Lodge No 70 A. F. & A. M. of Windsor and a member of the Yalesville Untied Methodist Church.

Besides his wife Elizabeth, he is survived by his three sons, James Verdini and his wife Laurie of Brown Summit, NC, Joel Verdini and his wife Carol of Windham, ME and Les Forbes and his wife Dena of Wallingford; his daughter, Wendy Forbes of North Haven; his four grandchildren, Elizabeth Forbes, Seth Forbes, Allison Verdini and Robert Verdini and his great granddaughter, Emily Vince.

Masonic Services were held in The Yalesville United Methodist Church by the Washington Lodge, No 70, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons. Funeral Services followed.

Dean C. Vernon, Sr., 69, died Friday, May 12, 2006, at his home in Carlsbad.

Mr. Vernon was born June 7, 1936, in Caney, Kan., to George W. and Maude Adcock Vernon. His family moved to Tucumcari in 1946, where he graduated from Tucumcari High School in 1955 and went to work for the State Highway Department.

Mr. Vernon married Patsy Johnston on Oct. 19, 1957, at the First Baptist Church in Tucumcari. Following their marriage the couple lived in Grants, then in Lubbock, Texas. In Lubbock, he worked as a milkman and for the Santa Fe Railroad. He attended the Lubbock Barber College, graduating in June of 1959 before moving to Carlsbad the following month.

Mr. Vernon worked for many years at the High School Barber Shop, then owned and operated the Carlsbad Barber Shop until July 2004. He was a member of Blodgett Street Baptist Church and the BPO Elks Chapter No. 1558.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a step-father, Orville Britton; three brothers, Frank, Ed, and Jesse; a sister, Martha Ross, and 14 half-brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy Vernon; a son, Dean C. (wife Brigitte) Vernon Jr. of Carlsbad; two daughters, Kristie (Ed) Merkel of Carlsbad and Sonja (Randy) Chatfield of Carlsbad; a brother, Harold Vernon of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; a sister, Alpha Ross of Caney, Kan.; five granddaughters, Amber Willier, Stephanie Dobson, Deana Rogers, Joana Wells and Ashlyn Chatfield; five grandsons, Joseph Robinson, Bradley Davis, Brennan Davis, Lane Chatfield and Lanndan Chatfield and eight great-grandchildren.

Ed Merkel, Joseph Robinson, Randy Chatfield, Brian Dobson, Amber Willier, Deana Rogers and Raymond Wells served as pallbearers.

His grandchildren served as honorary pallbearers.
