On the 12th instant, at Goulburn, the lady of William CHATFIELD, Esq., of a daughter. ----- Find A Grave Memorial# 125208690 ===== "In 1974 I brought a bible from a charity shop in Drummoyne (NSW), which is the family bible for the family of Robert Jones Mackenzie and Ella Frances CHATFIELD, probably given to the couple on their wedding in 1872. The bible has resurfaced as I am moving house! I am simply trying to give this bible back to the family it needs to be with. My search includes the descendants of the following children: Robert, Linda, Enid (Mrs H Mathews), Irene (1.Mrs Gregg 2. Mrs Cash), Lewis, Malcolm, Macalister, Angus, Gordon and Wallace. The bible contains some valuable and original family records from that date. In the middle of the bible are pages are written with ink and some pencil, with family data. These pages are rather fragile but the details are clear: dates of birth, times, godparents etc. It is an invaluable resource for a descendant with an interest in genealogy. There is also a loose folded piece of paper, which details a typed family tree someone has complied at some stage. (This page gives Robert Snr's name as James!) I am attempting to repatriate (meaning to give free) to any descendant of this family group who will respect and appreciate the bible as a part of their family heritage. As a family historian myself I respect the value of such items. Are any of you in touch with any living descendents to whom I could offer this bible? Hopefully there are some here in Sydney. Many thanks for your time John T Thorley, Sydney NSW" |

Ellen Chatfield in household of Lewis C CHATFIELD, "USA Census, 1850" [Uncle] Event Place: Sharon, Medina, Ohio Gender: Female Age: 9 Birthplace: Michigan Birth Year (Estimated): 1841 ----- Mrs. Ellen Chatfield Cottingham was born at Michigan Center, Mich., in 1840. She moved with her parents to Sharon in 1845 and lived on the old Chatfield homestead until she was 18 years old, when she was married to C. C. Cottingham. Three sons were born to them: Fenton G., who lives in Idaho; Ernest, who died in infancy; and Clyde G., who lives in Cleveland. Mrs. Cottingham died after a brief illness, on Sunday, Feb. 24 1907, and was buried Thursday in the Sharon cemetery from her late home, the Rev. Ira Priest of Akron officiating. Nearly her entire life was spent on the two adjoining farms, her father's home and the Cottingham farm. She was a woman of unusual ability and force of character. She was a good wife, a kind mother and a rare neighbor. She was not only filled with neighborly kindness and good will, but she knew how to do things. Her ready sympathy, good sense and quick judgment were relied upon by a host of friends, who ever found her an impartial neighbor and a loyal friend. Her sons and grandchildren have a splendid inheritance from a strong and good woman. Her departure leaves a great gap to her home, her church, the L.C.A., of which she was vice president, and the community. Her influence was blessed; her memory an inspiration. ----- USA Census, 1870 Name: Ellen Cottingham Birth Year (Estimated): 1841 Gender: Female Age (Original): 29y Race: White Birthplace: Michigan Event Place: Ohio, USA Household Gender Age Birthplace Christopher Cottingham M 38y England Ellen Cottingham F 29y Michigan Fenton G Cottingham M 10y Ohio Clyde G Cottingham M 2y Ohio ----- USA Census, 1880 Name: Ellen Cottingham Event Place: Sharon, Medina, Ohio Gender: Female Age: 39 Marital Status: Married Occupation: Keeping House Race (Original): W Ethnicity: American Relationship to Head of Household: Wife Birthplace: Michigan Birth Date: 1841 Spouse's Name: Christopher Cottingham Spouse's Birthplace: England Father's Birthplace: New York Mother's Birthplace: Pennsylvania Page: 387 Page Letter: B Entry Number: 404 Affiliate Film Number: T9-1047 GS Film number: 1255047 Digital Folder Number: 004243654 Image Number: 00343 Household Gender Age Birthplace Self Christopher Cottingham M 49 England Wife Ellen Cottingham F 39 Michigan Son Fenton G.
