HALFMOON, N.Y. - Nancy Jane Bishop, 79, died April 27, 2017, at her home.
She was born Jan. 7, 1938, in Leicester, Vermont, the daughter of Asa Benjamin and Margaret (Swinington) Chatfield.
Ms. Bishop worked for many years at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Albany, retiring in 1997.
Survivors include a sister, Eva Chatfield, of Daytona Beach, Florida, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a son, Donald Bishop; two grandchildren; two siblings, Norman Chatfield and Anna Mae (Swinington) Munger.
A gathering and luncheon will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 21, at Brandon, Vermont, American Legion Post #55.

Death record states date of death as December 23, 1928 with an age of 87y 4m 23d for a calculated dob of July 30, 1841, however several documents estimate his dob as 1843 or 1844.
Alfred was a carpenter and builder living on Road 54 in West Rochester (Child's, p. 621).
Alfred married three times: Ada Russell, daughter of Charles Russell and Ada Cross, in Starksboro, VT on May 29, 1869; Lilla B Gove, daughter of Aaron B Gove and Evelyn Root, in Hancock, VT on March 7, 1896; Alice Stevens, daughter of Asa Stevens and Deborah Beckhorn, in Licoln, VT on August 1, 1900.
He had been a member of the Seventh Vermont and served in the Department of the Gulf until the close of the War. Swinyer initially enlisted at age 17 on December 16, 1861, mustering in on February 12, 1862 into Co. E, 7th VVI out of Hinesburg. He mustered out October 15, 1862. He re-enlisted at age 21 on August 5, 1864 mustering into Co. K, 7th VVI out of Hinesburg. He mustered out July 14, 1865.
The Swinyer family sent eight sons to the Civil War. Not only did all return, but also they lived at least forty-three years after the war's end

Two bridesmaids in pale mauve satin frocks made an effective foil for the bride, Miss Violet Maud Chatfield (second daughter of Mrs. Florence Ann Chatfield nee King and the late Mr. George Chatfield) at her wedding to Mr. Leonard Gordon Symes (second son of Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Symes, Nanango) at St. Andrew's Church of England, Lutwyche, on April 11. The Rev. Brown Beresford officiated, and a vocal solo was rendered by Mr. W. Hughes. Mr. W. J. Adams gave away the bride, whose frock of white bridal satin was made with long Bishop sleeves. Her tulle veil, lent by Mrs. J. Auld, was worn with an orange blossom halo on silver lace.
The frocks of the bridesmaids, Misses Edna and Eva Chatfield were cut on Grecian lines, and they added mauve and violet tulle hats. Messrs. George Oldmeadow and Eric Hardy acted as best man and groomsman respectively. A reception was held at the Australian Hotel, where the bride's mother, who received the guests, wore grey metalasse relieved with navy and a navy hat. Brown floral mariette with a hat to tone was the choice of the bridegroom's mother. On leaving for the honeymoon, which is being spent touring the Northern Rivers and visiting Sydney and the Blue Mountains. Mrs. L. G. Symes wore a navy blue coat and skirt of metalasse relieved with dusky pink collar and cuffs stitched in navy, with a navy hat to tone.

At St. Mary's Church, Cooktown, on Tuesday evening, October 24, Rev. Father Mount, O.S.A., solemnised the marriage of Harry, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Chatfield, Herberton, and Eileen May, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Symons, Hogg-street, Cooktown. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a gown of white mariette and angel skin lace, Her veil as worn Madonna style and she carried a bouquet of white roses and asparagus fern tied with white ribbons. Miss Kit Summerhayes, niece of the bride, attended as bridesmaid and wore a frock of green organdi and a tulle band round her head and carried a bouquet of pink and yellow roses tied with pink ribbons. Dr. Burke Gaffney was best man. After the ceremony the reception was held at the residence of the bride, and Mrs. Symons (mother of the bride) wore a frock of brown morocain with a black hat. Only relatives and immediate friends were present at the reception, and a number of other friends were present later on. The two tier wedding cake was the work of Comino's (Cairns). The bridegroom's present to the bride was a platinum pendant and to the bridesmaid a string of crystal beads. On leaving by the Merinda for her future home in Cairns the bride wore a travelling frock of blue striped morocain trimmed with organdí and wore a blue hat.
