CHATFIELD DIES SUDDENLY HERE Grocery Merchant Succumbs to Attack of Heart Trouble After Working In Store All Day Funeral Services to be Monday Morning at 9 o.Clock Leslie J. CHATFIELD, from a family of widely known DeKalb county citizens, died about 10 o'clock Thursday night in his home, 333 West Sycamore street, following a sudden attack of heart trouble. Funeral services will be held from St. Mary's church at 9 o'clock Monday morning, with the Rev. Fr. Masterson officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel. Mr. Chatfield's death was as sudden as it was unexpected. He had worked all day Thursday, but shortly after supper complained of a sore arm. He retired shortly after 9:30, when he suffered a worse pain in his arm. He got up in an attempt to alleviate his suffering, and within a few moments keeled over dead. Physicians attributed his death to angina pectoris, or heart trouble. He was born in Sycamore February 17, 1883, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John R. CHATFIELD, and always lived here, where he was in the grocery business at different intervals, the last time succeeding W. F. Miller on May 1. 1925. Previously he was in business with Will Campbell, and at one time was city treasure. He was married to Jane Dee of Rochelle, October 2, 1906, and she with their two children, Dee and Kathern, the aged Mr. Chatfield and a sister, Mrs. Perry Fisk of DeKalb, survive. ----- USA Census, 1910 Name: Lester J Chatfield Event Place: Sycamore Ward 1, DeKalb, Illinois Gender: Male Marital Status: Married Race: White Relationship to Head of Household: Self Birthplace: Illinois Father's Birthplace: Illinois Mother's Birthplace: Illinois Household ID: 10 Page: 1 Household Gender Age Birthplace SELF Lester J Chatfield M 27y Illinois WIFE Jennie Chatfield F 26y Illinois DAU Catherin Chatfield F 1y Illinois ----- USA Census, 1920 Name: Leslie J Chatfield Event Place: Sycamore Township, DeKalb, Illinois Gender: Male Age: 36 Marital Status: Married Race: White Birthplace: Illinois Birth Year (Estimated): 1884 Relationship to Head of Household: Self Household ID: 33 Sheet Number: 3 GS Film number: 1820303 Digital Folder Number: 4300174 Image Number: 00515 Household Gender Age Birthplace SELF Leslie J Chatfield M 36y Illinois WIFE Jeanette R Chatfield F 34y Illinois DAU Katherine A Chatfield F 11y Illinois SON John L Chatfield M 7y Illinois FATH Chatfield M 70y Illinois |
True Republican, 6 October 1906 LESLIE CHATFIELD MARRIED, Miss Jeanette Dee, Much Admired Young Lady of Rochelle, Is The Bride, A quiet wedding, still one of much interest to their host of friends and acquaintances here, occurred in Rochelle Tuesday evening, when Mr, Leslie CHATFIELD, of Sycamore, son of Mr, and Mrs, John CHATFIELD, and Miss Jeanette Dee, daughter of Mrs John Dee, of Rochelle, were united in marriage, The ceremony was performed at the Catholic parsonage at 7 o clock and the impressive ring ceremony was used, Miss Julia Kelly, of Rochelle, and friend, of Sterling, were bridesmaid and best man, Only immediate members of the family were in attendance, Leslie Chatfield was brought up in Sycamore, receiving an excellent education mostly in the public schools, and he has a large circle of steadfast friends who admire and respect him for his manly traits, The bride's friends and acquaintances are not confined to Rochelle, but she has not a few in Sycamore, She is a charming young lady who not only makes, but retains friends, It is needless to state she will receive a hearty welcome in Sycamore, The happy couple were obliged to be married rather quietly, as many pranks had been planned by their friends, and even then they had much difficulty in getting away, Mr, and Mrs, Chatfield took an automobile ride to DeKalb where a west bound train was caught and they will be guests of Mrs, John Chatfield s brother, Benjamin Phelps, at Omaha, for two weeks, after which they will make their home in Sycamore, where the groom is engaged in the grocery business, A reception will be given at the home of the groom on October 15, to which about 100 friends have been invited. |
