Born in Weston County, WY ("You won't find Four Horses on any map,") says wife Betty Camblin Woods in 8/1987. She adds, "He never forgave his mom for naming him Edison, but his mom stated that she 'wanted to name him after someone important". Baptized with the rest of his family into the Presbyterian faith on 4/21/1957, Tommy was a Republican. Tommy was delivered by midwife (Mrs. Hatfield) on the George Davis ranch, where his Father ("Jumbo") had been working. He attended two years of high school at Sundance, Crook, WY, following grade school at Upton country & town, Sheridan country & town, and Newcastle Jr. High.

According to funeral bulletin: Funeral Services held 2 PM Friday, July 5, 1996 at First Presbyterian Church, Gillette, Campbell, WY. Officiant Rev. Peggy Cooper. Pallbearers John Ackerman, Robert Donner, Sam Bunsu, Mike Stone, Don Jones, Bill Rader. Special music: "Peace in the Valley," "Amazing Grace," "Beyond Sunset," organist Louise Dickey, Soloist Elizabeth Rigsby. Military Grave side Rites provided by American Legion Post #42 and Wilson-Noecker Funeral Home, Gillette, Campbell, WY.
Married in First Presbyterian Church, Gillette, Campbell, WY. Married by same minister as baptized the Woods family (Thomas Edison, Betty, and children). Baptisms took place on 4-21-1957, for all members, at time of infant baptism of daughter, Roxanne. Son Dennis was later baptized as infant by same minister (Reverend Phoenix).

Funeral services for Thomas E. Woods, 68, Upton, were held 2 PM Friday, July 5, 1996 at First Presbyterian Church, Gillette, (Campbell, WY), with Rev. Peggy Cooper officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by American Legion Post $41 at Mt. Pisgah Cem., Gillette, (Campbell, WY).
He died Monday July 1, 1996, at his home in Upton as a result of heart failure. He had open heart surgery in 1982 to replace the aortic valve with an artificial implant which lasted nearly 14 years.
Thomas was born Jan 15, 1928 at Four Horse, Weston, WY with the help of a midwife, Mrs. Hatfield, to Lester V. and Vesta G. (Roach) Woods. Lester "Jumbo" was working as a cowbou on the George Davis Ranch.
He grew up and attended several schools, including Upton, Sherican and Newcastle.
He joined th US Army and took his basic training at Fort Ord, CA. He was released from active duty at the end of World War II and was called back to service during the Korean Conflict. During his service time he received a Pacific Service Ribbon, two Oak Leaf Clusters, United Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, 1 SVC Star, Nation Defence SVC Medal from the 24th Division. He was discharged as a Corporal in 1954.
He married Betty Lou Camblin Dec 31, 1951at the First Presbyterian Church, Gillette, with Rev. Phoenix officiating.
Four children were born to this marriage - Gary, Sheri, Roxanne and Dennis. They were also blessed with five grandchildren, from Sheri, Zachary and Emily Haas; Gary from Michael; and Kyle and Cory from Dennis. Roxanne helped raise three step-children.
Tom had many friends and neighbors whom he enjoyed "shooting the breeze" with.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Lou, of Upton, two sons Gary Woods of Gillette, and Dennis Woods of Apple Valley, MN; two daughters, Sheri Haas of Corvalis, OR and Roxanne Clark of Salida, CO; five grandchildren; two sisters Marion Wilbur of Arizona, and Maxine Sorter of Texas; and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jack and Bill Woods; amnd three sisters, Myrle Marquiss, Elenore Plemmons and Patsy Peterson.
Wilson-Noecker Funeral Home, Gillette, was in charge of arrangements.
