"Died two days before Pearl Harbor," says son, Tommy, as quoted by spouse Betty Lou Camblin Woods on 8-8-87. Was nicknamed "Jumbo" by fellow ranch-hands due to his height (6' 4").
He is buried in Greenwood Cemetery (Weston County--Newcastle, WY). County of birth is Boone County, IA.
By notes of Betty Lou Camblin Woods, Jumbo was an "early cowboy, homesteader and rancher in SD and WY, foreman of the famous D-Ranch (Moorcroft, WY)."
A jackknife he found in the South Dakota Badlands is on display in Smithsonian Institution: it bears the date "1732" and the initials "RK". Among other ranches where Jumbo worked are the George Davis place and the Williams place on Raven Creek.
From on-line records of James Woods.
