Betty Lou Camblin Woods, 87, passed away November 9, 2013 at the Pioneer Manor in Gillette, WY. She was born August 20, 1926 in Gillette, one of eight children to Christina (Zigler) & Edwin Earl Camblin. She was raised at the Pumpkin Butte Ranch against the backdrop of the Great Depression, which meant raising livestock, growing food, and chores that put food on the table. She attended a one-room school by riding horseback in all types of weather. Betty experienced frost-bit toes on one or more occasions. Attending high school in Gillette meant paying room and board to stay with families in town. She graduated from high school in 1945. Then she entered the Nursing Cadet Corps to train as a nurse in Billings, MT. She became an RN in 1948, and returned to the ranch to help her parents. Her employment as a nurse began at Natrona County Hospital in 1949.

Betty married Thomas Edison Woods on Dec. 31, 1951 in Gillette, WY. Tommy was serving in the U.S. Army in Korea when Gary Thomas Woods was born. Tommy returned home in 1954 and the Woods' made their home in Upton, and in quick succession three more children followed: Sheri Lue , Roxanne, and Dennis Lee. The Woods' home at the corner of Pine and Division served as the family home for the next 48 years. Betty resumed employment as a nurse for the Upton Public Schools. Betty also helped start the Upton Clinic with Dr. Hudson. After the clinic closed, Betty nursed peopled in her own home or made visits to their homes. For such service, she was formally recognized by the City of Upton.

In 1970 Betty returned to nursing at the Crook County Hospital in Sundance, WY and worked there until a car accident in November 1971. After her recovery her life interests changed. She delved into photography and local history. In the late 1980's she completed two genealogical works: stories of the Camblin and Woods families. She also wrote articles for the centennial celebration books in honor of the pioneers who settled Campbell and Weston counties. Betty continued to live in Upton after Tommy died in 1996. What began as forgetfulness developed into dementia. During this time we owe many thanks to the kind people of Upton. Under their watchful eye, she was able to stay in her home until 2005, when she entered Pioneer Manor. We are grateful to the care she received while at the Manor.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her two brothers (Earl and William Camblin) and four sisters (Rosalee Johnston, Estelene Williams. Josephine Fortin, and DeLaine Wagner).

She is survived by her sister, Alberta Cox, of Moorcroft, WY, her 4 children, 6 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren.
