Thomas "Tom" L. Morgan, 79, of Perrysburg Township, passed away October 5, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Tom was born December 18, 1937 in Toledo. He was a proud graduate of Macomber Vocational School in 1956. He married the love of his life, Nora "Jeanne" Chatfield, on January 25, 1958 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Tom was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. He served on USS Basilone, a destroyer escort. Tom began his career at Perrysburg Collision. He earned his associates degree from Owens and bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Toledo. Tom was a charter member of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, a member of the Freemasons, and he enjoyed viewing PBS. He participated in classic car shows, with Ford being his car of choice. He spent many hours restoring his 1963 Falcon. Tom was an extremely avid reader and loved to fill his time with books. He also enjoyed hobbies such as photography, playing the guitar, and listening to jazz and old country western music. He especially enjoyed designing and creating his own stain glass art.

Tom will be missed dearly by his wife of nearly 60 years Nora "Jeanne" Morgan; daughter Juli (John) Steinmetz of Perrysburg, Ohio; granddaughter Sara (Doug) Balsmeyer and their children Ezekiel, Micah, and Tabitha, of Walbridge, Ohio; granddaughter Alexis Morgan of Denver, Colorado; grandson Jonathon Morgan of Monroe, Michigan; brother Larry (Carla) Razny of Arizona; brother David (Pam) Razny of South Carolina; sister Vicki (Peter) Brown of California. Inventor of Volleyball. Born in Lockport, New York, he was a physical education director at the YMCA in Holyoke, Massachusetts, when he realized that basketball was much too strenuous for the older gentlemen. He set out to invent a game for men as well as women to play with no limit to the number of people on the court at one time. The first game was played on December of 1895 and was called Mintonette. It was a little different from the volleyball we are used to today and each side could hit the ball as many times as they liked before it went over the net. After he did some fine-tuning, the game of volleyball made it's official debut eight months later at what would eventually become Springfield College. The game was accepted as a success and since the object of the game was to volley the ball back and forth, the game was renamed volleyball. Morgan left the YMCA in 1900, to pursue various careers in business, but his game went on to be one of the most popular team sports in the world. He died at age 72 in New York and in 1985, he became the inaugural member of the Volleyball Hall of Fame. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)

WEDDING AT COOMA
KING - MORIARTY
A large gathering of relatives and friends of the contracting parties took place at St. Paul's Church, Cooma, on Thursday morning when the marriage of Miss Annette Moriarty, second daughter of Mr and Mrs Zouch Moriarty, to Mr George Russell King, second son of Mr and Mrs George Chatfield King, of Valetta, Rose Bay, was solemnised. The altar and choir of the edifice were artistically decorated by friends of the bride, with a profusion of formed an attractive setting to the costumes of the bridal party. The bride was accompanied by her father, and upon their entry the rendering of "Oh perfect love," by Mrs Gordon Hirst on the organ, formed an appropriate prelude to the ceremony. The officiating Clergyman was the Rev Canon Hirst, Rector of St. Paul's. The bride wore a dress of ivory brocade, with godets of crepe de Chine, and a tulle veil (kindly lent by the mother of the bridegroom), surmounted by a gold bandeau and cluster of orange blossoms. Her bouquet was a sheaf of white gladioli and gold roses, fastened with a golden ribbon. The bridesmaids were Miss Cherie Moriarty, sister of the bride, Miss Lilian King, sister of the bridegroom,

Miss Janet Ryrie, of Goulbourn, and two tiny cousins of the bride, Patricia and Janet Chisholm, of Merilla, Goulburn. Mr T. H. Knox, of Cania, Cooma, officiated as best man. The bridesmaids were in georgette costumes' of blue, primrose and lavender, with large crinoline hats en suite, and carried bouquets to tone. Mrs Moriarty, mother of the bride, chose a grey embroidered dress with hat of black and gold, and carried a posy of red roses. Mrs G. C. King, mother of the bridegroom, wore mole grey silk, with chapeau of blue, her bouquet being of blue and cyclamen. The hymns and Wedding March were rendered on the organ by Mrs Hirst. On leaving the church the wedded pair met a shower of rose leaves, and as their car was leaving a lucky floral shoe was attached. The reception was held at Dodd's hotel, at which Mrs King, a lady of four score years, grandmother of the bridegroom was present, having journeyed from Bowral for the occasion. The usual wedding toasts were warmly honoured, and shortly after Mr and Mrs King left by car for Cronulla, where the honey- moon is to be spent, Mrs King travelled in a tunic frock of brown figured morocain, with hat to match. They left Cooma amidst the cheers of a large gathering of friends, and expressions of good wishes. The future home of Mr and Mrs King will be Banda, Bungarby.
