Obituary
Eilene E. McKee, 92, of Charlotte, MI died Thursday, February 12, 2009. Mrs. McKee was born May 7, 1916 the daughter of Harley and Florence (Chatfield) Day. Mrs. McKee retired from the State of Michigan where she worked in the Licensing Bureau. She was a former member and Sunday School teacher of South Baptist Church in Lansing. Mrs. McKee was an avid cat lover and at one time had over 200 cats.

She is survived by her Sister-in-law, Barbara Day of Charlotte, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and brothers, Billy Day and Dorence Day.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 14, 2009 at Pray Funeral Home with Reverend Duane Royston officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte, MI. Visitation will be Friday, February 13, 2009 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home.

Verda Agnes Chatfield married George William Day (Mar 27, 1927), a non-Catholic who converted the day before their wedding only to get past Verda's mother, Nellie. Nellie wasn't happy. George was ten years older than Verda who was only eighteen—and he was a widower with two small sons, and he married Verda less than a year after his first wife died, and he drove a brand new Jordan which cost a fortune—any one of those things being enough to raise her mother's eyebrows. He was also a bootlegger, but Grandma Nellie didn't know about that.

George William Day, retired manager of the Union Ice Company, died at his home on Hazel Street early this morning.

Mr. Day was born in Sacramento May 2, 1898, and it was there he received his education. He went into the ice business and became manager of the Union Ice Company's various firms. He was employed in Watsonville prior to War II and later was transferred to Vallejo and Redwood City.

Previous to establishing his home here four years ago, Mr. Day had lived here a number of years ago with his grandmother, Mrs. Kitty DeVoe, who was one of Chico's early pioneer families. Mr. Day was a former member of the B.P.O. Elks Club, of Watsonville, and spent as much time as his work would permit taking part in lodge and social activities.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Verda Day. He also has a brother, Guy Day of Stockton as well as thee grandchildren.
