Edna Cheek Adams, age 102, of Union Point, GA, died August 22, 2005 at her son's residence. Born in Walton County on October 21, 1902 she was the daughter of the late George L. Cheek and Lizzie L. Crawley Cheek. She graduated from Mount Carmel School and in 1927 moved to Greensboro. For over thirty years she worked as a spooler at Mary Leila Cotton Mills in Greensboro. She was a member of West End Baptist Church of Greensboro and enjoyed cooking, sewing and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her husband Zebedee A. Adams in 1976 and a granddaughter, Dianne Chatfield Allen. She is survived by a son, George T. Adams and wife Ann of Union Point, GA; a daughter, Annette Adams Chatfield of Yatesville, GA; seven grandchildren, Richard Adams of Greensboro, GA, Stacy Adams and wife Sally of the Liberty Community, Jay Adams and wife Loreen of Greensboro, GA, Stephen Chatfield and wife Josefina of Troy, IL, Edward Chatfield and wife Vickie of Yatesville, GA, Janice Chatfield Crook and husband George of Yatesville, GA and Michael Chatfield of Yatesville, GA; twelve great grandchildren; eleven great great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Wayne Usry officiating. Interment will follow at Greenview Cemetery.

WILLIAM P. CHICK, one of the prominent farmers of Jackson Township, was born in Gallia County, Ohio. March 10, 1825. He was the third son born to William and Nancy (Skinner) Chick, the former a native of England and the latter a native of New York. When William was quite a small boy his parents removed to a farm in Scioto County, Ohio where he spent his boyhood and early youth working upon a farm. In 1842 he left home and went to Missouri, where he worked, by the day and month, for five years. ln 1847 he returned to his father's, in Scioto County, Ohio. He came to this county, and located in Walton, in 1854, and in the fall of 1863 he located where he now resides, in Section 1, Jackson Township. December 9, 1851, he was married to Mary Ann Shope, a native of Scioto County, Ohio, and daughter of James and Armina (Chatfield) Shope, natives of Ohio and New York, respectively. Mr. and Mrs. Chick have had three children: Nancy E. and James and a twin sister who died in infancy unnamed. James died at five years of age. In politics Mr. Chick is a Republican. He owns a nice farm of 160 acres, about half of which is in a high state of cultivation. His farm is fitted up with good fences and buildings, among which is a handsome new frame residence, erected at a cost of $2,200.. Mr. Chick is an honest, upright man, an industrious and successful. farmer and a good citizen.
