A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 14th in the Garden of Good Shepherd at Elmwood Memorial Park Mr. Chatfield was born on February 22, 1926 in Leicester, Vermont the son of Asa B. Chatfield Sr. and Marion Arvilla Herrington Chatfield. He married Phyllis Lockhart on April 5, 1958 in Oklahoma and she preceded him in death on May 11th of this year. He served in the USA Air Force during WW II and remained in service to our country for 22 years retiring in 1968. George had several careers after his retirement from the Air Force; he worked 24 years for the City of Abilene at the Grimes Water Treatment Plant, and over 10 years for H&R Block during tax season, he also did tax preparation out of his home for several years. George was a self taught wood craftsman and electrician. Survivors include three daughters, Sandra Patterson of Ennis, Texas, Tina Lyles and her husband, James M. Lyles, of Sumter and Dorothy C. Posey and her fiancé, Edward Olson, of Newport News, Va.; five grandchildren, Larissa, Alyssa, Sara, Matthew and Jonathan; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Boock. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. Eugene Mosier officiating. Mayor of Chichester, Sussex NOTE Testator of 1599/1600. Buried in the Cathedral at Chichester on February 5 1599/1600; Married Agnes ? MARCH, widow. On November 8 1565 he leased a farm called Bolneys in South Mundham in Pagham, abt. four miles south of Chichester, where he settled and resided several years. In 1572 he was taxed there in a subsidy, and in 1576 he is mentioned in Pagham as farmer of the rectory. He also had lands in Oving, and later removed into Chichester, where he acquired several pieces of property, was assessed in subsidies in 1596,1597, and 1599, and in 1586 and 1599 was mayor of that city, dying in office in the last-mentioned year. The embossed silver and gilt bowl which he bequeathed to the corporation of Chichester has disappeared from the collection of municipal plate there. He left his property among the children of his eldest brother, Francis CHATFIELD, the latter's second and third sons, Francis and George, receiving all the real estate; and, except for small bequests to his two sisters, his other relatives were ignored. COURT: The Will of George Chatfelde of the City of Chichester, Sussex Co., gent., 1 February 1599 [1599/1600]. To be buried in the Cathedral Church of Chichester near my father. To the fabrie of the said Cathedral Church 12d. I will that there shall be distributed among the poor inhabitants, men and women, on St. George's day 20s. GEORGE CHATFIELD, I (1624-1671): He was b. in 1624 in Sussex, England, and d. Jun 9, 1671 in Killingworth, CT. He was named in the wills of both his parents. Md. 1st Sarah Bishop in Mar 1656, dau. of John and Anne of Guilford, CT. She died childless in Sep 1657. His 2nd mg. was to Isabel Nettleton, dau of Samuel and Mary of Milford, CT, on Mar 29, 1659. George CHATFIELD, with brothers Thomas and Francis, left England and arrived in Guilford, CT in 1639. They were part of Rev. Henry Whitfield's Company and were Original Inhabitants of Guilford CT, where they appear on lists of Planters in Jun 1639 and 1650. In 1663 George and family moved to Killingworth CT. George was one of the most prominent men of Killingworth. He held the office of constable. George and Sarah, his 1st wife, had no children. By: Cheryl (Chatfield) Thompson. He was evidently one of the most important men of Killingworth, holding the office of constable, as mentioned in the Colonial Records, vol. 2, page 525, under date of 1669, when he made return of the freemen of the town, the constables being at that time the advisers of the governor in the affairs of their respective towns and the local representatives of his authority. |
