Sarah Marsh\Mersh was baptised on 24 March 1850 in Pulborough. The baptism register noted that her father was a labourer. In the 1851 census it would seem she was 1 year old Jenny Mearsh. When the 1861 census was recorded she was an 11 year old scholar and the eldest of her siblings living at home.
As Sarah Marsh she married Frederick Chatfield by banns on 13 June 1868 in Pulborough. He was a 24 year old bachelor and labourer and she was a 19 year old spinster. Sarah's father was named as Edward Marsh a labourer. Frederick's father was not named. The witnesses to their marriage were Witfould Luxford and Ellen Chatfield.
