The West Australian (Perth, WA : Friday 8 May 1953)
A Sensation Of Motorist Was Timely. Telling of a sensation that something was approaching, a driver described on Wednesday how a car passed him and struck the front of his utility truck while he was making a right-hand turn in Great Eastern-highway on December 20 last year. "If I had not pulled my hand in," said Frederick Smith. of Leacke-street, Belmont. "it would have been taken off." In the Perth Traffic Court yes terday, the other driver Thomas Ashworth CHATFIELD, of West Swan-road. Caversham faced a charge of negligent driving. He said that Smith had given no hand signal. Witness had moved out to pass Smith, who suddenly turned right and hit defendant. Chatfield admitted that he had given no warning. Trevor William Stanton said that he had seen Smith move to the centre of the road and give a clear hand signal. Chatfield was fined £3.

Big white fella corroboree.
In tribal dress, final year pharmacists celebrated the end of exams with a corroboree at the home of Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Chatfield in Caversham last night. While Ruth Mills (centre) tries her hand at lighting a fire with a stick, fellow tribesmen (left to right) Matt Comparti, Jeff Forgan, Brian O'Brien and Arthur Ross contemplate the tasty morsel provided by host Kevin Chatfield. Provisions (snake) were specially imported from Rottnest.
