"Asa Lake was born on 2 May 1764 in Litchfield, Connecticut. He died on 8 Aug 1843 in Mount Blanchard, Hancock, Ohio. Asa and Chloe married in Hampshire Co, Virginia (now West Virginia). She was a native of New Jersey. With his parents, Asa Lake had come to Castelton Vermont in 1771. When he was but fifteen years of age, he joined the Green Mountain Boys in 1779. Following the Revolutionary war, with his brother Vincent, he went to Hampshire County, Virginia. There he married Chloe, a girl from New Jersey. About 1780, they went to Mason, County Kentucky, where he served with Daniel Boone and Colonel Simon Kenton in many struggles with the Indians. About 1799, the family moved to Jackson County, Ohio Territory and settled near the salt mine works, east of the Scioto River. During the fall of 1821 or early in 1822, the family again moved, this time to Hancock, Ohio where they made their home until his death and where Chloe died too.
