They are buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Raytown, Mo. ----- Betty Ann Moyer Chatfield People Tuesday, 16 February 2010 19:32 1917-2010 Betty Ann Moyer CHATFIELD, 92, died Feb. 14, 2010, at the Foxwood Springs Care Center in Raymore, Mo. Betty was born Dec. 13, 1917, at 1515 Appleton Avenue in Independence (Englewood), Mo., the second child of John Calvin Moyer Sr. and Clara Elizabeth Corbin. She and her brothers and sister were raised to adulthood in Englewood. She graduated from Northeast High School in Independence in 1936. During World War II, Betty took part in the war effort and moved to Long Beach, Calif., to work in the shipyards. There, she met her future husband, Curly, and they were married on May 4, 1944, in Philadelphia, Pa. After the war, they returned to Independence where they lived for a short while, then later moved to Raytown, Mo., and finally to Cleveland, Mo., in 1961 where they lived on a farm the rest of their years together. Although she was more than busy caring for her large family, she still found time to sew, quilt, embroider and crochet, and was an avid reader who also enjoyed jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She loved all animals, particularly her beloved cats and dogs, and enjoyed shopping at flea markets and antique stores. Above all, she will always be remembered as a loving mother who will be dearly missed. She had nine children, three of whom died at birth: Silas and Donald (twins) and Timothy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Joseph "Curly" Chatfield Sr., in 1992; and her brothers and sisters, Alvirda Marie Moyer Conklin, Riley Corbin Moyer and John Calvin Moyer of Henderson, N.C.; and four half brothers and sisters: Julius Carl Moyer, Earl Hammond Moyer, Ellen Katherine Moyer Palmer and Glenna Mae Moyer McGinnis. Her surviving children include Michael John of Blairstown, Mo.; Lowell James and Kenneth Joseph Jr., both of Cleveland; Joanne Elizabeth Chatfield of Boulder, Colo.; Clara Marie Chatfield Hocker of Chicago, and Donald Jerome of Drexel; as well as seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services will be 11 a.m. today at Penwell-Gabel Louisburg Chapel, 120 S. Broadway Road, Louisburg, KS 66053. Burial will follow in the Louisburg Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. today at the chapel. |
