OBITUARY Telegraph Herald (Dubuque, Iowa) Dec 18, 2004 Virginia Chatfield Virginia (Topp) CHATFIELD, 74, of 3601 Crescent Ridge, died Wednesday evening, Dec. 15, 2004, at home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m. Mrs. Chatfield worked as a loan officer at Dupaco Community Credit Union, Dubuque, retiring in l985. She was born on April 24, 1930, in Robinsdale, Minn., daughter of Floyd and Marion (Richardson) Topp. She married Donald Chatfield on June 25, 1949, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dubuque; he preceded her in death on July 13, 2004. She was a member of St. Mary's Parish. Surviving are three daughters, Linda (Robert) Biver and Cynthia CHATFIELD, both of Dubuque, and Jacqueline (Daniel) Fain, of Dallas; a son, Steven J. (Jane) CHATFIELD, of Eugene, Ore.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Arlene Wright, of Seattle. She also was preceded in death by her parents; two grandsons, Brian R. Biver and Chad M. Biver; and sisters, Evelyn Fox, Beverly Brown and a sister in infancy. In lieu of flowers, a Virginia Chatfield Memorial Fund has been established. |

New Zealand Herald, 8 March 1940, Page 1, DEATHS. TORLESSE. On March 6, passed peacefully away at Timaru, Charles Edward Torlesse, in his 74th year. ----- Obituary The death occurred in Timaru recently of Mr Charles Edward Torlesse at the age of 74 years. Mr Torlesse was the second son of the Rev Henry Torlesse and Elizabeth Henrietta Torlesse, of Rangiora. His grandmother was Katharine Gurney Torlesse, wife of the Rev Charles Martin Torlesse, of Stoke by Nayland, Suffolk, England, and a sister of Edward Gibbon Wakefield. Mr Torlesse was educated at Christ's College, where he was a pupil from 1878 to 1882. On leaving College he joined the staff of the Union Bank of Australia, and after serving in various branches was appointed manager of the branch of the bank at Hastings in 1906. Subsequently he was manager at Waimate and Timaru, retiring from the latter branch in 1927. In his younger days Mr Torlesse was a keen rugby footballer, being a member of the Canterbury Club and he had the honour to represent Canterbury against Hawke's Bay, Auckland, and Wellington in 1887. He also took an interest in volunteering and held a commission in the Rangiora Rifles and the Lyttelton Navals. In latter years Mr Torlesse took up golf and bowls, and he retained his interest in these sports throughout the remainder of his life. Mr Torlesse married in 1900 Florence Edith, eldest daughter of the late Mr William C CHATFIELD, of Island Bay, Wellington. Mrs Torlesse died in June, 1931 (1932), and in 1938 Mr Torlesse married Miss Margaret Aslin, of Wanganui, who survives him. He is also survived by four children of his first marriage, Mrs H E Wright (Mayfield), Miss Susan Torlesse (Timaru), Mr J H Torlesse (Wellington), and Mr R C Torlesse (Hunterville). WEDDING: A wedding of interest in the South was that of Miss Betty Torlesse, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Torlesse, Union Bank, Timaru, to Mr. Harold Wright, third, son of Mrs. A. W. Wright, of Secheron. The bride was given away by her father, and wore a charming frock of cream Brocade with frills of georgette piped with brocade, long georgette sleeves, and a tulle veil caught with a pearl coronet, and orange blossoms. The court train was of white and silver brocade, lined with lavender georgette, and the wedding bouquet was of pale pink flowers. The bridesmaids were Misses Lulu Hay and Susie Torlesse, who were in deep apricot brocade and georgette three-tier frocks, with head dresses consisting of bandeaux of flowers and silver ribbon. Their bouquets were of shaded sweet peas. Mr. Douglas Barker was best man, and Mr. J. Torlesse groomsman. After, the ceremony a reception was held at the Union Bank, Mrs. Torlesse receiving in handsome black and gold brocade and a black hat. Mrs. A. W. Wright wore black crepe marocain with circular frills and a black, hat. Others, present were Mrs.Frank Barker, Mrs. F. Evans, Miss Wright, Mrs. George Rhodes, Miss Revell, Mrs. Pritchett, Miss Higgins, Mrs J. A. Julius, Mrs. Hay, Mrs Temple, the Rev. C. Pritchett, and a number of others. The wedding ceremony took place at St. Mary's Church, which was prettily decorated for the occasion. .The Rev. Archdeacon Julius was the officiating clergyman.
