Some early visitors to northeast Pennsylvania were like Connecticut schoolteacher Denman Coe.
He came in to what is now Newfoundland about 1794-5 and built a log cabin. He hunted and
trapped. Every year, he carried $200 to $300 of furs back to Connecticut on his back.
