Donald J. CHATFIELD, 77, of 3601 Crescent Ridge, died Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at home, following a courageous and dignified battle with cancer.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with the Rev. Ardel Barta officiating. Burial will be in the Dubuque Memorial Gardens, south of Dubuque, where military rites will be accorded by the American Legion, Dubuque Post 6. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.
Mr. Chatfield worked as a construction engineer for Interstate Power Co., retiring in 1990.
He was born on May 11, 1927, in Dubuque, son of Donald F. and Eileen (Daly) Chatfield. He married Virginia Topp on June 25, 1949, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Dubuque.
He was a veteran of the Army, having served during World War II and the Korean War.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Parish.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia CHATFIELD, of Dubuque; a son, Steven J. (Jane) CHATFIELD, of Eugene, Ore.; three daughters, Linda (Robert) Biver and Cynthia CHATFIELD, both of Dubuque, and Jacqueline (Daniel) Fain, of Dallas; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, William E. (Edna) CHATFIELD, of Belleville, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two grandsons, Brian R. and Chad M. Biver.
