Nemec John J. Nemec, 82, lifelong resident of Deming passed away Sunday August 15, 2004 at Mimbres Memorial Hospital. Visitation will begin at five o'clock, Tuesday August 17, 2004 at Baca's Funeral Chapels. A prayer vigil will follow at seven o'clock in the evening also at Baca's. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Wednesday August 18, 2004 at ten o'clock in the morning at Holy Family Catholic Church. Concluding services and interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

John was born September 21, 1921 in Granger, TX to Stanley and Mary Nemec. On February 3, 1942 he enlisted in the US Army. His specialty was as a Munitions Worker with the artillery units. Less than an year after having enlisted, John found himself being shipped overseas where he saw combat during WW II. He was in combat in Rhineland, Central Europe, and Air Offensive Europe campaigns. For his service he received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon and the Distinguished Unit Badge. His biggest reward while in the service was meeting his soul mate, Audrey Jenkinson, whom he married on July 4, 1945 while still stationed overseas. After coming back to the US and receiving his honorable discharge on October of 1945, the couple moved to Deming where they made themselves a home. While in Deming John worked for almost forty years as an Assistance Maintenance Supervisor for the New Mexico Highway Department.

He was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church and until his illness John was very active in many local organizations to include the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, VFW and DAV. John also at one time held the position as commander for DAV. He also assisted many veterans ensuring they received benefits entitled to them.

John is survived by his wife Audrey of the home; two sons, John Nemec Jr. and wife Belen of Las Cruces, and Daniel Nemec and wife Cindy of White Cloud. MI; his daughter Carol Ottwell and husband Ben of Columbus; two brothers Tanley Nemec Jr. and Leonard Nemec; one sister, Ruby Greenwell; five grandchildren, three great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.

His son James R. Nemec preceded him in death March 15, 2003. Entrusted to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels of Deming, 811 S. Gold Avenue.
