During the early 1900's a local real estate agent knew there was a strong population of Czech's who migrated to the west and settled in Texas. He started advertising land for sale in Luna County.
Many Czech families responded to these ads and started to migrate to Deming from Texas, searching for rich soil for ranching and farming. Since the 1920's, the Czechs have left their mark on Deming through the businesses they opened and by sharing the very heart of their cultured backgrounds with the community.
The Nemec family settled in Deming in 1925 from Granger, Texas and had heard of the real estate available in Deming through Frank Kretek and were also assisted by the Kretek Family once they arrived here. The Kretek family arrived in Deming in 1923. Frank was in real estate and also of Czech heritage.
