Helen J. Ponichtera, 79, formerly of Burnet Park Drive died Sunday in St. Joseph's Hospital.
A native of Syracuse, Mrs. Ponichtera lived in Clearwater, Fla., for the past 15 years. Mrs. Ponichtera was a communicant of St. Cecelia's Roman Catholic Church, Clearwater, and a former member of Sacred Heart Church in Syracuse. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliaries of the Polish American Veterans Post 14 and the General Pulaski American Legion Post 1650, both in Syracuse.
Her husband, Joseph, died in 1993.
Surviving are seven daughters, Arlene Hayes of Mattydale, Joanne Picciotto of Clearwater, Kathy Leslie of Toronto, Canada, Janet Mulcare of Miamisburg, Ohio, Marianne Ricker of Liverpool, Barbara Borreggine of Syracuse, and Karen Chatfield of Watha, N.C.; four sons, Joseph, Richard and Henry Krupa, all of Syracuse, and Robert Krupa of San Antonio, Texas; a sister, Martha Massaro of North Syracuse; 21 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Cecelia's Church. Burial will follow at Sylvan-Abbey Memorial Home Cemetery in Clearwater.

Warren was the son of Dunham Bessey, Sr. and Azuba Beebe Bessey. Dunham may be buried in Crown Point, Indiana, according to an old family diary, in an unknown gravesite. He is last seen in the 1870 federal Census for Dundee, Kane, Illinois. He is known to have traveled West in old age with his son, Albert Bessey and family . They eventually locate in Kearney, Buffalo, Nebraska, but Dunham is not with them there. It is speculated he died enroute and was buried possibly in an unknown location.
