Mr. Freeman S. Hodges (1851-1921), for years a prominent citizen of Putnam county, but for the past several years a popular resident of Jacksonville, died Monday afternoon at the family residence in Jacksonville, following a short illness.
The deceased was a native of Osterville, Mass., and was seventy years of age. About forty years ago he moved to Florida and soon settled at Satsuma, where for years he engaged in the saw mill business, being associated with his brother, Henry S. Hodges, now of Jacksonville. They met with marked financial success and their mill was recognized as one of the leading industrial enterprises of the county. After the timber supply in the Satsuma section had been depleted, the Messrs. Hodges moved to Jacksonville.
The body was sent to Osterville, Mass., for interment, accompanied by Mrs. Hodges and other relatives. (Times-Herald Obituary dtd Friday, 4 Nov 1921.)
