Peter Chatfield died in quite tragic circumstances following an accident on 31 October 1976 whilst on a pedestrian crossing in Tonbridge, Kent, knocked down by a motor cyclist. He was probably transferred to the Brook Hospital in Greenwich which at that time was where the local neurological surgical unit was situated and died there.
