Served during S. African Campaign 1899-1901 as Lt., Kimberley Light Horse, was
through the siege of Kimberley as Capt. of Chatfield's Scouts, a corps raised
by himself, and attached to the Imp. Yeo. under Col. the Hon. H. Duncombe;
mentd in despatches for conspicuous gallantry.
