A funeral service for Marilou Earlene Bernard, 77, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 15, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Douglas, Wyoming with Reverend Linda Wells officiating and Ed Sheridan as the eulogist. Interment will be in the Douglas Park Cemetery.
Marilou Bernard died Monday, October 10, 2011 at the Memorial Hospital of Converse County in Douglas.
Marilou was born July 14, 1934 in Buffalo, Wyoming the daughter of Earl and Bertha Valgene (Talbot) Hughes.
She was raised and educated in Buffalo. She owned Mac’s Bar with her husband, Jerry Chance in Thermopolis, Wyoming. After his death she became a police dispatcher for the Thermopolis Police Department. While there she served as president of the Wyoming Police Officer Association-Communications and was awarded Police Officer of the Year. She moved to Buffalo, and was employed as the supervisor of the medical records department at the Johnson County Hospital until the time of her retirement. She moved to Douglas after retirement to be close to her children.
She was an outstanding mother, raising five children most of her life as a single mother. She was loved and will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, and the entire family. She had a sweet smile that would lighten a room. She loved Christmas, the Broncos, jewelry, and dolls.
Marilou was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry; brother, Bill Hughes; sisters, Jean Whitted and Patricia Koch; son, Rick Chance; and nephew, Bruce Hepp.
She is survived by her daughter, Cindy (Ed) Sheridan; sons, Michael (Patricia) Chance, Greg Chance, and Marvin Bernard; sisters, June Hale and Phyllis (Jim) Hepp; grandchildren, Daphne Vaughn, Susan (Chad) Sheridan-Lewis, Rick (Kristen) Sheridan, Colleen Chance, Michele (Colin) Sutherland, Ryan (Tera) Chance, Myra Bernard, Micah Bernard, Molly Bernard, Maitlyn Bernard, and Madison Bernard; nine great grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Rick Sheridan, Ryan Chance, Chad Lewis, Marvin Bernard.
