========================
David was born in Worthington, Massachusetts, on July 7, 1790, thirty-two days after Rhode Island became the 13th Colony to ratify the Constitution. Midway between his 21st and 22nd birthday, in Preston, New London County, Connecticut, David married Zipporah Avery, then 18. Their January 5, 1812, wedding preceded the War of 1812 by five months—the period when the Mississippi and Missouri Territories were being organized.
David remarried in 1851 at the age of 61. Like Zipporah, his second wife, Julia Austin, came from Connecticut. Their marriage resulted in the birth of Austin O. Herrick, who was born in Twinsburg on September 22, 1852. David Herrick died in Twinsburg on January 26, 1867. He was buried in the Herrick plot along side his first wife in Twinsburg. His death occurred at the time that both the Senate and the House were considering impeachment of Andrew Johnson.
