SYCAMORE OF FORTY YEARS AGO (1928)
John Chatfield Sr. died at his home in the city on Wednesday, March 8, of old age and its attendant infirmities. The funeral services were held in the Universalist church Friday afternoon. He was born in the county of Surrey [Kent], England, in 1799. He came to this county in 1841 and in the same year settled in DeKalb, county. For many years he was a well known farmer of this township, owning a valuable farm two miles northeast of this city on the Charter Grove road. In 1847 he was married to Julia A. Holmes, now deceased, of DuPage county, Ill. There are surviving two children, Susan and John R. Chatfield.
