Merritt Ogden Chatfield was born near Plattsville, N.Y., January 22, 1831, departed this life November 16, 1921, at his home near Clifton, Colo. His early life was spent in New York and there he married Hannah Fairchild. To this union one child was born--Russell H. Chatfield of Clifton, Colo.

Later, with his family, he moved to Whitewater, Wis., where he resided eighteen years, working at his trade and farming.

In the fall of 1873 they moved to Washington county, Kan. Two years later his wife passed to her reward and he made his home with his son for the next twelve years.

In 1887 he married Ella Barker. Three children were born to them, all have preceded him to their Heavenly home.

On account of failing health, he disposed of his farm, living in Barnes, Kan., and later in Newton, Kan., until three years ago, when he and his wife came to Colorado to be near his son.

He was converted early in life and united with the M. E. Church. He was a regular attendant upon the services, taking an active part so long as health permitted.

He is survived by his wife, son, five grandchildren, and one brother--Eben Chatfield of Addison, N.Y.

The services were conducted by Rev. Clark Bower at the home. He was laid to rest in the family lot at Palisade, Colo.
