The Mall of St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store.
Myra Bernard of Cheyenne drove past the store around 11:30 that night. She was with friends who noticed something odd when they passed through a cloud of smoke on Snyder Avenue.
They looked at the store and saw glowing embers from a window near the back.
"We drove around again," Bernard said.
They saw flames licking a window that then burst. They called 911. Firefighters quickly arrived to battle the blaze.
Friends with Bernard that night were Vincent Piester, Christina Harrell, Curtis Zeman and Jennifer Ellis.
"It was a very big shock for all of us," Bernard said. "We were just in the right place at the right time."
