PORTAGE - Janice K. "Jan" CHATFIELD, age 67, of Portage passed away peacefully on Sunday after­noon, May 8, 2016, under the loving care of the staff at New Friends and SouthernCare Hospice in Kalamazoo.

She was born on Dec. 14, 1948, in Adrian, Mich., the daughter of the late Mervin L. and Elizabeth M. (Wimple) Chatfield. Jan graduated from Addison High School and Kalamazoo Valley Community College as a dental hygienist. She worked for Comar & Comar PC in Kalamazoo for 30 years until her retirement in 2008. Jan enjoyed many years of playing women's fastpitch softball for the Adrian Eagles. She also enjoyed traveling around the world, spending time with her pets, visiting friends and eating lots of ice cream.

Surviving are Diane Malczynski of Portage; two brothers, James Chatfield of Adrian and Jerald (Louann) Chatfield of Tecumseh; nephews, Jeffrey (Andrea Wynn) Chatfield of Jackson, Aaron (Chenelle) Chatfield of Ann Arbor; and many close friends and extended family.

Honoring Jan's wishes, cremation has taken place. A gathering to celebrate Jan's life will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 S. 9th St., Kalamazoo. Memorial contributions in Jan's memory may be directed to SouthernCare Hospice or Alzheimer's Association .
