Thomas William Chatfield (1877-1931) married 1900 Mary Jane Elizabeth Cooksley. New Zealand BMD have her listed as Marian Elizabeth Cookesley at the time of her marriage to Thomas Chatfield. NZ BMD have her listed, for her birth, as Mary Jane Elizabeth born to parents George Elijah Cooksley and Susan Hines. Susan Hines was George Cooksley's first wife who died shortly after the birth of their daughter Mary. George next married Susan Blanche Morris and they had a further ten children. It is interesting to note that Susan Morris's father George Morris emigrated to NZ on the Anne Wilson in 1857 - the same ship as John Thomas & Rebecca Hooper. A great grandson of John Hooper, Norman George Hooper married Clara Winter the daughter of Alexander Winter who was also the birth father of Barry Chatfield's wife Jacqueline (Winter) Kerr.

GETTING LEMONS. [Ages of Chatfield boys seem mixed up]
Auckland Star, Volume XXII, Issue 23, 28 January 1891, Page 5
Each recurring fruit season brings renewed complaints about depredations committed upon orchards. A case detected yesterday may perhaps deter fruit-stealers from further operations. About two p.m. Constable Foreman was going the rounds in Ponsonby, when he saw four boys selling fruit. It has been well said that a guilty conscience needs no accuser, for as soon as the little fellows sa the man in blue they dropped the fruit and ran for it. Foreman and Finnerty, however, succeeded in securing four boys, who appeared at the Police Court this morning before Dr. Giles, R.M.
Their names were as follows ;--Thomas W. CHATFIELD, aged 15; Ernest Sutton CHATFIELD, 11; George Roderick Green, 14 ; and Frederick Callaghan, 11. They all pleaded guilty to having stolen lemons and apples from the orchard of Wm. Mason at Ponsonby.
Sergeant-Major Pratt related the facts of the case, and Mr Green said that the boy was wi1d, though he had not been up before.
Dr. Giles dismissed E. S. Chatfield with a caution, and ordered each of the others to receive six strokes with a birch rod, also 24 hours' hard labour.
