RECOLLECTIONS of early Queensland are recalled by the death last week of Mr. Frederick John Heussler, of Eagle Junction, whose father, one of Brisbane's pioneer merchants, built Fernberg, now Government House, and lived there for some years. He became a member of the Legislative Council in the second Queensland Parliament. The late Mr. Heussler's mother was a sister of William Westgarth. the Australian and London financier, whose books at the fifties are regarded as the best records of early Victoria. Mr. Heussler attended the Brisbane Grammar School when it was located in Roma Street, and as a young man he obtained colonial experience on the well-known Mount Cornish cattle station. Later he became a Government surveyor, retiring, from the service about eight years ago. His sister was the second wife of the late Mr. John Cameron, M.L.A., of Kensington Downs, the father of Colonel Sir Donald Cameron.
