In 1927 it is reasoned that he was a clerk at 115 Regent Ave., because of the entry in Lovell's Montreal Alphabetical Driectory.
In the same directory for 1938 he was at 4972 Sherbrooke, Westmount.
He went to work for a grocer in Montreal and in 1938 opened Chatfield's Fine Grocery Store in Westmount which is a very upper class area in Montreal. The store remained open for 48 years. His sons Walter Duncan and Frank John and his son all worked there. The store sold a lot of imported goods from England to the wealthy people in Montreal as well as other groceries. They had all the Peak Freans, I can't think of the name of jams and jellies but they were all very English - as well as Christmas Crackers!

Voyage to England:
CHATFIELD, Walter born 1891 sailed 1960 Southampton to Montreal, Canada.
Yes this was my grandfather - Walter J - he went for a visit to England after his wife (my grandmother died). He ended up bringing back a lady - her name was Nellie - I don't know much more than that. (Debra Chatfield Masse 2012)
