Theron was born on the farm his parents were renting at the northeast corner of Section 30, Altoona Township. He attended schools at Bonilla and graduated from Bonilla High School in 1934. He then farmed with his father and brothers. From 1939-1942 he lived at Rapid City where he worked in construction and as a mechanic.

He entered the U.S. Army on March 19, 1942, during World War II, and served stateside until his honorable discharge on April 7, 1944. He then returned to the Bonilla area where he farmed on his own.

On October 19, 1948, Jack married Nellie Smith Farnham at Pipestone, MN. The couple farmed until the mid 1950's when they moved into Bonilla, and later to Huron where he worked for the South Dakota Highway Department until the mid 1970's. He then moved to Sioux Falls where he worked on his own doing construction and remodeling until moving to Hitchcock in 1994. On January 24, 2005, he entered the Huron Nursing Home.

From his youth he was known as a "jack-of-all-trades", hence his nickname of "Jack". He worked as a carpenter, mechanic, plumber, electrician, cabinetmaker, bricklayer, cement mason, and an all around repairman.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bonilla, a life member of the American Legion, and a past member of the Belles and Beaus Square Dance Club of Huron. His interests in his later years included flower gardening, reading, jigsaw puzzles, and he always found fix-it projects on which to work.

Theron passed away at the Huron Regional Medical Center, at the age of 92 years, 8 months, and 20 days.

He is survived by 1 daughter, 2 stepsons, 2 stepdaughters, 3 grandchildren, 15 step grandchildren, 30 step great grandchildren, several step gr-great grandchildren, 1 brother, his many friends at the Hitchcock Nutrition Center; and his feline friend, "Kit".

He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters, Ione (Frank) Arneson, Vera (Gerald) McDonald, and infant Ruby; 6 brothers, Roe, Ceylon (Edith), Russell, Day, Dayton (Justina), Harold, and a former sister-in-law, Inez (Harold) Fuller.
