Obituary
Dennis Charles "Denny" Chatfield July 11, 1931 - July 21, 2016 Passed away peacefully in his sleep. Predeceased by his brother Raymond, Dennis leaves behind his beloved wife Thelma, children Brian and Denise and grandchildren, Leah, Rebecca, Alicia, Danny, Tamara and Tianna.
Dennis was born in Tonbridge Wells, England. As a boy, he watched with wonder the aerial acrobatics of fighter planes engaged in the Battle of Britain. This led to a lifelong interest in aircraft and a stint in the RAF. Before his RAF service Dennis had spent five years as an electrical apprentice, gaining his electrician's ticket at the age of nineteen. Dennis met Thelma while in the RAF, stationed at Hucknall, England. They were married in 1952 and soon after, he and Thelma moved to London, Ontario in search of greater opportunities. After working as an electrician for contractors and with the London School Board, Dennis joined Alcan where he enjoyed a 28 year career, involving multiple promotions, one bringing him and his family to the west coast in 1972.
Dennis gained much respect within the electrical contracting community in BC and Alberta for his great technical knowledge of aluminum wire and cable products. He was a member of the BC Electrical Code committee for many years and was inducted into the Electrical Contractors Association of BC Hall of Fame.
He was always quick to lend a hand. Very active in the Royal Canadian Legion, he was always a volunteer for their poppy campaign before Remembrance Day. In retirement, he could be found helping family, friends and neighbors with "fix-it" projects large and small. Dennis loved boating, fishing and, later in life, flying model airplanes. Mostly though, "Just call me Denny" loved socializing. His jovial, good natured personality will be greatly missed.
