Emma Mae (Chatfield) Fleck, 86, of Quaker Street, passed away quietly on Sunday, May 22, 2016. Born in South Lincoln, Vermont, she was the daughter of Daniel Lewis Chatfield and Carrie Annice Pierce.
She graduated from Bristol High School and the University of Vermont. Emma was involved in several community activities including scouting, Mohawk Valley Hiking Club, local libraries and many historical societies. Emma was also very active with the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) where she served in many capacities, such as clerk of the local meeting, representative to regional meeting, and clerk of the Indian Affairs Committee. Emma enjoyed many types of needlecraft including quilting and knitting. She could be counted on to "cook up a storm" for almost any occasion. She delighted in telling others about the maple syrup production which has been occurring on her family farm in Vermont for over a century.
Mrs. Fleck was predeceased by her husband, Joel Juden Fleck; her son, David Jonathan Fleck; and her granddaughter, Carolyn Beth Jeffers. She is survived by three children, Joel Fleck (Marilyn) of Westfield, New Jersey, Ellen Forshaw (Harold) of Urbana, Ohio, and Karen Jeffers (Robert) of Billerica, Massachusetts; five grandchildren, Jennifer Fleck Biundo (Joseph) of Chatham, New Jersey, Kaitlin Fleck and Meaghan Fleck of Westfield, New Jersey, Laurence Forshaw of Urbana, Ohio and Margaret Jeffers Campbell (Glen) of Lancaster, Massachusetts; and two great-grandchildren, George and Carolyn Campbell of Lancaster, Massachusetts. A brief graveside interment will be held in the Friends Burial Ground in Quaker Street at 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 29, with a memorial service on July 3. There will be no visitation.
