COLEBROOK - Frederick N. Chatfield, 88, passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2012. He was born March 9, 1924 in Norfolk. He was the loving husband of Carmela (English) Chatfield for 66 years.

Fred grew up in the Gilbert Home in Winsted prior to serving in the US Navy during WW II as an Electrician aboard the USS Maumee. He owned and operated Fred Chatfield Appliance and later was a stain glass artisan.

Besides his loving wife, he leaves his daughter, Diana Chatfield of Arlington, Virginia; granddaughter, Terri Villarouel-Huey of Carlsbad, California; great-grandson, Brandin Villarouel and soon-to-be born, Bryce Frederick Huey; brother, Edward Chatfield of Winchester; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Luana Chatfield, Marion Daigneault and Stanley Griswold.

Friends may call on Sunday, May 13. Military Services will follow at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

When I was younger I use to love it when my mom and Aunt Kathy would take us down to visit Uncle Fred at the store. He loved showing us all the different pieces of stained glass he had made. He showed us how to make stained glass turtles. (which I still have today) We had a lot of great times at Uncle Fred and Aunt Carmela house.(catching frogs those where good times) Rest in Peace.

I have great childhood memories of Uncle Fred. Eating vegetables out of the garden and catching frogs. I loved seeing his new stained glass creations. He was very creative. Rest in Peace.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Joseph, Angelo and Jack English and three sisters, Annie English, Grace Maloney and Rose Tkacs.
