Jesse Chatfield is my gggg grandfather. Over the past 30 years I've been able to piece together some info about him, but not a great deal. His farm was on the site of the second Battle of Saratoga in 1775. His sons, Rausel and Asa were both young. Asa was 5 at the time. Rausel must have been older because it is said that he was wounded in the hand while carrying water to the soldiers. I also learned that the women and small children were probably sent back to Pine Plains, NY or Salisbury, CT during the battle. I have been to the battlefield but they had very little info to share. The battlefield park wasn't established until long after any person living in that era had passed and most of the buildings too, were gone. Ephraim Woodworth's (Freelove's father) house was used as the headquarters for General Gates. Not much is known about Jesse after this. Freelove is buried in Saratoga County, the name of the cemetery and exact place escapes me. She died in 1828. The final word I have about Jesse is he was on his way to visit family in Ohio and was never heard from again. My Chatfield line from there is Jesse, Asa, Jesse Raymond, Jesse Billings, Henry Albert, George Edward, and me, Robert A. I haven't really been searching for about 20 years but these are things I remember from my travels and research. I will try to find my binders and info. It could be difficult, since we moved 2 years ago in September and I haven't seen them since. If I find any additional info, I'll be happy to share.
