Held the lease of a farm called Harris Lodge - a part of a manorial estate near Riverhead, Kent, England which lease had descended from father to son for (by May 30, 1831) nearly two hundred years; and was - a few years ago - still held by his son Jesse. (Written 1904 by Thomas Chatfield,grandson)

Harris could well be Horn's Lodge, Hildenborough, Kent, just under two miles north of Tonbridge, Kent.

John's oldest son Thomas CHATFIELD, farmer and John Barton Norwood of Pembury (son-in-law) were executors of estate. John left 25 pounds to the children of deceased daughter Mary, wife of William Pilcher John Pilcher, Mary Brooks, William Pilcher, Elizabeth (?), James Pilcher, Jane Pilcher, Walter Pilcher. Children named in the will were, Sarah, wife of William Chalklin,Thomas; Nicholas; Ann, wife of John Barton Norwood; William and Jesse. He instructed his executors to sell his personal and real property and divide it evenly among the surviving children.
