Jess Theodore was born in 1901. He was the son of Clara Chatfield (father not recorded), (His mother had been married to Henry James CHATFIELD, but he had passed away in 1894 . He was possibly the child of Charles Seager
.Maintenance.—Charles Seagar was charged, on the information of Ernest Albert CHATFIELD, with failing to maintain the illegitimate child of Clara Chatfield. The case was commenced yesterday and continued to-day, Mr Reed appearing for the prosecution and Mr Campbell for the defence. The informant, Clara Chatfield's son, had previously been sued for the support at the child, and had raised the defence that as it was illegitimate it should be supported by its father. He now sought to have Seager adjudicated father of the child. The defence while admitting Intimacy between M« Chatfield and the defendant, submitted that the woman's course of life at the period in question had been such that the Court could not decide the paternity of the child. The case is proceeding, evidence being called by both sides.
