Narrative
When her mom married Squire Gove she gave up guardianship of Sarah and two of her siblings. Papers were filed for Prospers pension by their guardian.
She was born 9 Nov 1858 and had four sisters. I found this information among the 90 page civil war widows pension materials of her mother Clarissa Durphey who was married to Prosper Durphey JR.
Prosper died in the Civil war and Clarissa remarried a man named Squire Gove. The pension has information on this marriage and gave her parents names. Do you need that information?

Sarah suffered from Dropsy (CHF, Congestive Heart Failure.) Bertha was 5 and Lucy only 2 when their mother died. Lewis had to go for help and he couldn't take the little girls down the rugged road. So, he barricaded the bedroom where Sarah's body lay. Then he killed a chicken, put it on the kitchen table and told the girls to pluck every feather off the chicken and that they were not to disturb their mother. While the girls were busy plucking the chicken Lewis walked a mile down the winding road to the Butterfield farm to get help. With their mother gone Lewis brought the girls to live with a neighbor until he remarried.
