Ann Marie said that no one seems to know where Nelson was buried, that in effect he ran off. That he hid out to avoid the civil war and molested his daughters. I just never heard anything about Nelson.

AWFUL FATHER
News has reached this city of the dastardly outrage that was committed near Philadelphia, Marion county, yesterday afternoon. A farmer named Chatfield attempted to commit a criminal assault on his married daughter, a lady named Powell. By screaming and fighting she succeeded in preventing him from accomplishing his purpose. He then made his escape and has not been seen in that neighborhood since. It is said that he was indicted by the grand jury some eight or ten years ago for a similar attempt on one of his other daughters. When the case came to trial the daughter testified contrary to the evidence she gave before the grand jury and he was acquitted. The last case has created considerable excitement, and a number of persons are scouring the country looking for him. If he is captured it is feared that he will be summarily dealt with. His daughter is said to be a highly respected lady, but he is a man of doubtful character.

A descendant, Mike Buehler, and Cheryl Chatfield Thompson researched the parentage of the illig. son born to Mary Alice, and both of us have the idea it may have been her father's child. Which, if correct, would make Nelson Wilson both father and grandfather to the child.
