Myron C. "Mac" McMullen, 89, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away November 15, 2018.
Myron was born September 27, 1929, in Emmett, Kansas, the son of Louis and Pearl Fitzhugh McMullen.
The McMullen clan boasted 10 children, with Myron being the youngest son. After leaving the McMullen farm in Emmett, the family lived in St. Marys and then Topeka.
He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Joseph McMullen, Leo McMullen, Thelma Heston, Margaret Perry, Ursula Anders and Delores Murden.
Surviving siblings include, Frances McMullen, Betty Parker and Darlene Woodruff.
Myron attended Hayden Catholic High School. He was a Golden Gloves Boxer at the age of 18 and a US Army Reserve Veteran of the Korean War, serving 1950-1956. He was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad 34 years, retiring in 1986.
Myron married Joan L. Chatfield on February 23, 1952. After celebrating 51 years together, Joan passed away May 13, 2003. He then met Doris Swarts and they were fortunate to share 11 years of friendship.
Myron is also survived by daughters, Myra Warner (Eddie) and Cindy Hiatt (Joe), six grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and rwo great-great-grandchildren.
Myron loved having a good time with family and friends, fishing, bowling, golfing and going to the casino. He was a "Santa Fe All The Way" guy, always on Santa Fe sports teams. He loved to dance (thumbs up to the songs "Bad Bad Leroy Brown" and "Proud Mary") and was a regular at the Moose Lodge and American Legion. The highlight of his 80th birthday was a large celebration party with a band and dancing.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614. The rosary will be prayed at 10:30 and Myron’s funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
